Questions about claims and about us

Short answers. A call gets you the long ones.

Does a denial mean I have no claim?

Not always. Insurers deny claims for reasons that turn out to be wrong, incomplete or not in the policy at all. We read the letter and the policy together before we say anything about your chances.

What does it cost to talk to you?

The first call and the review of your letter cost nothing.

How are you paid?

If we take a claim, we're paid a share of what we recover, set out in a fee agreement you read before you sign. If we recover nothing you owe no fee. Case costs, such as expert reports, appraisal and filing fees, can still be owed, and the agreement says which and who advances them.

I already hired a public adjuster. Can you still help?

Often, yes. Bring the contract you signed with your adjuster and we'll tell you how the two fit together.

Should I start repairs before you look at the damage?

Make temporary repairs that stop more damage, such as a tarp, and keep every receipt. Before anything is thrown away or rebuilt, photograph it and ask us.

Do I need to be there for the inspection?

It helps. The adjuster notices what you point out. Walk the house with them and write down what they look at and what they skip.

What's an appraisal?

Many policies let either side demand one when you and the insurer disagree on the amount. Each side names an appraiser, and the two choose an umpire. It settles the amount of the loss, not whether the policy covers it.

Can I talk to someone in Spanish?

Yes. Genaro Ledesma and Ysabel Zubiri work in Spanish and English, and calls and the form can be in either language.

How long do I have?

Policies and the law set deadlines to dispute a claim, demand an appraisal or file a lawsuit, and they are shorter than most people expect. If you have a letter, send it now, even if you're not sure you'll hire anyone.

Still not sure?

Send the letter and we'll tell you what we see.
